Frequently Asked Questions

Habits Assistant

Developer: Privatepappain • Offline-first habit tracker
Offline

Does Habits Assistant work offline?

Yes. Habits Assistant is offline-first — your habits, check-ins, streaks, and daily notes are stored locally on your device and work without an account or internet connection. The network is used only for optional Google sign-in and cloud backup, and to show ads.

Account

Do I need to sign in?

No. Signing in with Google is optional. All tracking features work without an account. Sign in only if you want encrypted cloud backup so you can restore your habits on a new device.

Backup

What does cloud backup store, and is it private?

When you're signed in with backup enabled, the app creates an encrypted snapshot of your habit configurations, streaks, and date notes, mapped to your Google account so only you can restore it. Your habit data is never sold or shared with advertisers. See the Privacy Policy.

Google data

What Google account data does the app use?

Only your basic profile: email, display name, profile picture, and a Google user ID/token for authentication. The app never sees your password and does not request Gmail, Drive, Contacts, or Calendar access.

Streaks

How do streaks and check-ins work?

Mark a habit done for a day and your streak grows. You can check off today's habits in-app or from the home-screen widget, or long-press any date on the calendar to mark it done, with subtle haptic feedback.

Reminders

How do reminders work?

Set a daily reminder time for a habit and the app schedules a local notification. Reminders reschedule automatically after a reboot. On Android 13+ you'll be asked for notification permission; if it's denied, reminders are silenced but tracking still works.

Charts

What do the progress charts show?

Each habit can be reviewed as a chart over 7 days, 1 month, 6 months, or 1 year (7 days by default), showing completion percentage and trend so you can see how you're doing at a glance.

Widget

Is there a home-screen widget?

Yes. The “Today's habits” widget shows your habits for the day and lets you check them off with a single tap, right from your home screen. It refreshes as the day rolls over.

Notes

Can I add notes to a day?

Yes. Tap a date on the calendar to add a short note (up to 200 characters) for that day — handy for context, reasons, or quick journaling.

Ads

Does the app show ads?

Yes. Habits Assistant is free and supported by Google AdMob ads. In the EEA, UK, and Switzerland a consent dialog appears before ads are shown, and you can change your choice in settings. Ad data is handled by Google and kept separate from your habit data.

Permissions

What permissions does it request?

Internet and network-state (for sign-in, backup, and ads), notifications (only if you enable reminders, on Android 13+), receive-boot-completed (to reschedule alarms after a restart), and vibrate (for haptic feedback). It does not request camera, microphone, precise location, contacts, or broad storage access.

Delete

How do I delete my data?

Delete individual habits, check-ins, or notes in-app. Clearing app data (Android Settings → Apps → Habits Assistant → Storage → Clear Data) or uninstalling removes all local data. To erase a cloud backup, turn off sync and delete in-app, or email [email protected].

Availability

Where can I download it?

Habits Assistant is launching on Google Play soon. The download link will appear on the app page once it's published.

Feature Availability Note

Some features depend on your device, Android version, and settings (for example, battery optimization and notification permissions can affect reminders). Not every feature behaves identically on every device.
